Glamorgan Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 12th September where we will have Sally Pointer demonstrating using the lucet to create braids. Sally has a wide knowledge and understanding of objects and ideas from the past, and we are delighted to be fortunate enough to have her come to speak to us. The evening commences at 7:30pm at Kynance Hall in Dinas Powys (rear of the Methodist Church). Members £2, Guests £5 all visitors welcome. A quick update of activities we are involved with during July/August Vale of Glamorgan Show Members will be attending the Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Show on the 21st August. Details can be found  here . Members will be demonstrating their skills for all to see. We are hoping for some good weather on the day - but are preparing our gazebo just in case it isn't. Do come along and say hello if you are attending the Show! Association Summer School A number of members enjoyed attending the Association Summer School this year in West Wales. One member was teaching and others attended the classes held. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed spending their time focussing on their crafts and are very much looking forward to the next one!

Our next meeting is this Saturday in Dinas Powys Souts Hall from the usual time 10am-4pm. This workshop will be led by guild members on Needlefelt, Maradai braids and Inkle weaving as a follow up from last month's evening meeting where we had demonstrations of the individual crafts. This promises to be a fun workshop with the opportunity to pick up a new skill, or try your hand at something you've always wanted to give a go! A bit more information about the new gallery Michelle Griffiths is opening in the Model House next weekend. Location: First Floor, Model House Craft & Design Centre, Llantrisant, CF72 8EB (Llantrisant is just off Junction 34 of the M4). Inaugural Event:  Saturday 30 June - Sunday 1 July opening at 10 am on both days. Exhibitors include: Susan Bowers - Patchwork & Quilting Demonstrations Susan Briscoe - Sashiko/Quilting Japanese Textiles Joan Gordon - Couture Dressmaking techniques with the sewing machine. Michelle Griffiths – Tie-Dye/Shibori Demonstrations Ruth Harries & Lisa Porch of Fibre Art Wales – meet the artist Felicity J Warnes - Rare, out of print, and second hand textile books. Including books on embroidery, spinning, weaving, dyeing, patchwork, and quilting. And of course - members of the guild! Hope to see you there!

Very exciting news has reached us at Glamorgan Guild! Michelle Griffiths the World Shibori Network representative for UK/Ireland is opening a new gallery based in the Model House in Llantrisant. The Resist Gallery Studio promises to be an exciting development with exhibitions on shibori/tie-dye, batik, ikat, cyanotype resists and eco-resist printing. Not to mention the workshop programme under development, reference library, talks, lectures and much much more! We are very pleased to have been given the opportunity to display our work during the opening weekend 30th June - 1st July and also do demonstrations - along with other exhibitors from the world of textiles!
