Glamorgan Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers

Our next meeting is on 11th September at Kynance Hall in Dinas Powys. Members are invited to bring items to our Show and Tell - either made by themselves or ones they consider interesting such as an antique textile or an unusual piece they own. Our next meeting is on Thursday 10 th  April and is a talk entitled: ' Batik: The People Behind the Cloth ' with Jim & Diane Gaffney This will start at 7:30pm in Kynance Hall, Dinas Powys (rear of Methodist Hall). Diane and Jim run  Textile Traders , a business focussed on hand made textiles from Asia, and we look forward to having them visit us. It promises to be an interesting evening. Visitors welcome! Our next meeting will be on Thursday 10th October and will be an open evening. This is a chance for you to bring along what you are working on and spend the evening doing what you love surrounded by like-minded people. We will also be discussing future events  and planning what the guild does in the months ahead - so please bring your ideas along with your work!

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 12th September where we will have Sally Pointer demonstrating using the lucet to create braids. Sally has a wide knowledge and understanding of objects and ideas from the past, and we are delighted to be fortunate enough to have her come to speak to us. The evening commences at 7:30pm at Kynance Hall in Dinas Powys (rear of the Methodist Church). Members £2, Guests £5 all visitors welcome. Our next meeting is on Thursday 13th June. We will have a talk by Helen Aanensen about Tablet Weaving. Tablet Weaving or Card Weaving as it is also called, is an ancient weaving technique often used in narrow items, such as belts. It can also be incorporated into larger pieces. As usual it will be held in Kynance Hall (rear of the Methodist Church) in Dinas Powys at 7:30pm. Members £2, Guests £5. All welcome! Our next meeting is on Thursday 8th November at Kynance Hall from 7.30 pm. A bit of a break from our usual programme - this is a  Show and Tell - giving members the opportunity to show off their most recent work and discuss techniques, ideas and the like! Although preparation for our next event is also listed, next year is looking to be very busy - so the next showcase of our work is yet to be confirmed! Ideas and suggestions in regards to this will be warmly welcomed by the committee as we are always looking for new ways of promoting our crafts and the Guild. We hope to see you there!

On the 8th the Guild enjoyed a lovely meal with beautiful table decorations -thanks to those who set up and helped out for the food and the organisation of the night as a whole. We are already looking forward to our meetings next year. First up is our January workshop led by Doreen Barnaville on colour blending.
